Gabersek Jr. passed into history on November 16th, 2009 at the Eldercrest Nursing Center in Munhall, Pa. . Born February 23rd, 1920, the former resident of Dutchtown (Collinsburg) and West Newton, recently relocated back to the Pittsburgh area from Alexandria Virginia this past summer. He resided at Sycamore Estate in Duquesne, Pa.. He was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Frances, Gabersek, sisters' Frances Isbir, Emma Smith, Jennie Simco, Marie Mautino, brother Frank Gabersek and his wife Beverly. He leaves behind daughter Darla Crise of Collinsburg and twin son's Dean Gabersek and his wife Millie and Dale Gabersek and his wife Shelly of Virginia, Sister in Law Elizabeth Gabersek, nieces Arlene Povirk Baker and Linda Nicolai, Nephew George Gabersek, several cousins, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great nieces and nephews. Sergeant Gabersek served his country proudly in World War II as a Medical NCO, 400th Medical Collecting Company and earned a combat star for the Liberation of the Philippines. He also was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal earned from October 1942 until honorably discharged in January 1946. Early in life he worked as a bricklayer and a carpenter. Towards his later years his kind ways found him making coffee at a Alexandria 711 and as a Wal-Mart greeter. He touched the lives of everyone he met with a smile and pleasant “Hi”. He especially enjoyed his many visits to the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. dressed in his service jacket. Dodson Memorial Home 213 Main Street West Newton, Pa. 15089 on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. and from 9 A.M. to the time of the Memorial Services at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday. Interment will follow with full military honors at the West Newton Cemetery. All are welcome to attend the service. Memorial contributions may be to the John W. Gabersek Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund which will benefit children of U.S. Serviceman and Women killed or wounded in action from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
